Comparative Study of Protection Efficiency of C-Steel Using Polystyrene Clay Nanocomposite Coating Prepared from Commercial Indian Clay and Local Khulays Clay

This work aimed to compare the coating protection efficiency of C-steel using two kinds clay: a local Khulays clay (RCKh) from Saudi Arabia and commercial (CCIn) India. Clay-based polymer nanocomposites have unique layered structure, rich intercalation chemistry, availability at low cost. They are promising reinforcements for polymers. The raw both types was washed before being treated with NaCl produce sodium (NaC). cationic surfactant cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) then used convert NaC into organoclay (OC) form. Polystyrene/organoclay (PCNs) were prepared by combining different concentrations (1%, 3%, 5% OC) in toluene solvent polystyrene (PS) as matrix. To ensure success PCN modification process, films characterized variety techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM). shifts FT-IR spectra after CPC treatment confirmed presence samples OC PCNs. exfoliated structure obtained XRD spectrum loading (1–3% PCN), while intercalated dominant form PCN. results TEM images. calculate PCNs, various electrochemical methods used. measurements included impedance (EIS), frequency modulation (EFM) method, Tafel plots. concentration 1 wt.% has fully higher than PCNs partially structures (3 5 wt.%). It found plots that Indian better corrosion (81.4%) (60.2%). A comparison other studies current density values shows our superior those many studies.
